A recent study conducted in Namutumba District, Eastern Uganda, highlights critical factors contributing to child deaths from severe malaria between September 2021 and February 2022. Researchers identified stockouts of anti-malarial drugs and blood products, along with treatment non-completion and inadequate referral systems, as key contributors to these deaths. The study emphasizes the urgent need for enhanced health system support, including timely access to treatment and improved blood transfusion services, to prevent further fatalities. These findings are pivotal in guiding efforts to strengthen malaria treatment and care for vulnerable children.
