Groups at Risk
A person may be exposed to malaria by living in a specific location (high transmission or low transmission) of malaria vectors. The more common malaria vectors (P. falciparum, P. vivax, and P. knowlesi) are more prevalent in certain geographical locations and less in others. Certain population groups such as children under five years of age (especially infants under 12 months of age) and pregnant women are also known to be at greater risk of being infected with malaria.
Here, we highlight specific groups that may be at risk of being infected with malaria.
