Combatting drug resistant malaria: UN General Assembly
Antimicrobial resistance, including growing malaria parasite resistance to treatments, is a major challenge facing the malaria elimination agenda. There are serious concerns that resistance to artemisinin-based treatments will proliferate in Africa, where over 90% of malaria cases and deaths occur. The implications for malaria morbidity and mortality could be disastrous if this resistance persists.
We must act fast and decisively on anti-malarial resistance by combining innovation with intersectional approaches that look like how issues such as gender and poverty limit access to proper diagnosis and treatment while fuelling resistance. Join MMV and partners for an insightful discussion aimed at ensuring malaria is not left behind in the conversations and decisions on antimicrobial resistance.
