CAR community case management
At the community level, there are a total of 814 community health workers (226 Mentor Initiative, 193 United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), 156 Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) malaria care points, 239 Malaria Control Service/World Vision International (WVI)). This is insufficient to cover the community health worker need – estimated at 3,227 – for efficient and effective community management.
The Mentor community health workers and MSF malaria care points carry out malaria care activities at fixed points around rural and urban health care facilities and use advanced and mobile strategies. In contrast, government and UNICEF community health workers focus on populations in areas that are hard to reach from health care facilities and work in places more than 5 km from health care facilities.
Community participation in control activities continues to be limited to event-based activities such as world days and mass campaigns.
